Introduction:
Coniferyl alcohol is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of eugenol, stilbenoids and coumarins. Gum benzoin contains a large amount of coniferyl alcohol and its esters. It is found in both gymnosperms and angiosperms. Two other lignin monomers are found in angiosperms and grasses: sinapyl alcohol and p-coumaryl alcohol. It is a queen residual pheromone (QRP), a bee pheromone found in the mandibular glands.
